Thermoplastic Elastomers Extrusions (TPEs) at Fairchild

At Fairchild Industries, we deliver high-performance rubber and plastic components backed by over 60 years of industry experience. Among our advanced material solutions, Thermoplastic Elastomers Extrusions (TPEs) offer unmatched flexibility, durability, and process efficiency—making them a top choice across industries like automotive, appliance, marine, and construction.

1. What Are TPE Extrusions?

Thermoplastic Elastomers Extrusions (TPEs) are flexible materials that combine the characteristics and performance abilities of rubber with the processing advantages of plastic. TPEs can be stretched to at least twice their original length at room temperature and return to their original shape when stress is released, giving them a longer life and greater physical range than many alternative materials.

TPEs are classified into six traditional categories:

    • Styrenics (S-TPEs)
    • Copolyesters (COPEs)
    • Polyurethanes (TPUs)
    • Polyamides (PEBAs)
    • Polyolefin Blends (TPOs)
    • Polyolefin Alloys (TPVs)

Emerging technologies have also introduced new variants such as:

    • Reactor TPOs (R-TPOs)
    • Polyolefin Plastomers (POPs)
    • Polyolefin Elastomers (POEs)

These material variations allow for fine-tuned performance based on environmental resistance, elasticity, chemical compatibility, and cost-efficiency.

2. Versatile Applications Across Industries

Fairchild Industries uses TPE Extrusions to create components that demand both durability and design flexibility. Common applications include:

    • Automotive: Window seals, wire protection, weatherstripping, and vibration dampers
    • Construction & Industrial: Edge trims, tubing, and gasket profiles
    • Appliance & Electrical: Grip-enhanced buttons, flexible enclosures, and cord wraps
    • Marine & Outdoor Equipment: Water-resistant seals and co-extruded profiles

TPEs are ideal for products exposed to repeated flexing, outdoor elements, or that require a soft-touch surface.

3. Custom Design and Manufacturing

We collaborate directly with OEMs and engineers to develop tailored TPE components. Our in-house capabilities include:

    • Precision extrusion for custom profiles
    • Over-molding onto rigid plastics or metal substrates
    • Color matching, durometer adjustment, and surface texture options
    • Rapid prototyping and scalable production volumes

Our team ensures each component meets your application’s exact performance, aesthetic, and functional needs.

4. Quality and Sustainability

Fairchild follows stringent quality assurance protocols, from raw material selection through final inspection. TPEs also support our sustainability goals thanks to their recyclability and low-energy processing. This eco-conscious approach minimizes waste while maintaining high product standards.
