EPDM Rubber Extrusions at Fairchild
At Fairchild Industries, we provide precision-engineered rubber and plastic components built on over 60 years of industry expertise. Among our trusted material offerings, EPDM rubber extrusions stand out for their excellent weather resistance, long-term durability, and cost-efficiency—making them a top material for automotive, construction, appliance, and marine applications.
1. What Are EPDM Rubber Extrusions?
EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) rubber is a synthetic elastomer known for its exceptional resistance to ozone, UV exposure, oxidants, and extreme weather conditions—making it ideal for outdoor and harsh-environment use.
Key performance features include:
-
-
Excellent heat resistance
-
Long-term color stability
-
Strong dielectric properties
-
Lower material cost compared to neoprene
While EPDM offers many of the same benefits as neoprene, it’s more economical. However, it’s not recommended for use with petroleum-based products, mineral oils, or aromatic hydrocarbons, and it may become conductive when carbon black is used in its formulation—common in black rubber compounds.
2. Versatile Applications Across Industries
Fairchild Industries produces EPDM extrusions for industries that require durability, flexibility, and environmental resilience. Common applications include:
Automotive:
Construction & Industrial:
Appliance & Electrical:
Marine & Outdoor Equipment:
3. Custom Design and Manufacturing
We collaborate with OEMs and engineers to deliver EPDM components designed to perform in demanding conditions. Our custom capabilities include:
-
-
Profile extrusion for complex shapes and sealing geometries
-
Co-extrusion for multi-material profiles
-
Durometer tuning and color-matching
-
Prototyping and high-volume production scalability
4. Quality and Material Considerations
EPDM’s resilience and tensile strength are slightly lower than natural rubber and polyisoprene, but its superior weather resistance and affordability make it the go-to material for outdoor sealing applications.
Note: Because carbon black is commonly added to EPDM compounds, black EPDM is not suitable as an electrical insulator.
Our quality assurance process covers material selection, extrusion accuracy, and final part inspection—ensuring reliable, consistent performance.
